“I Believe in the Power of Prayer”

When Geneva Shearburn first heard about the Benedictine Sisters of Perpetual Adoration, she needed strength and peace. Her husband was having health problems, and a friend recommended that she visit the Benedictines. In the years since, she has turned to them in times of crisis, and they have always been a source of strength.

“I believe in the power of prayer,” she states with the quiet confidence of someone who has experienced that power in her own life. A son was assigned to hazardous duty in Iraq and returned home unscathed. Another son survived a car accident without harm. Her husband overcame his health problems. Even now, the power of prayer is sustaining her family while her husband searches for employment to replace a lost job after the company he worked for closed its doors after 50 years in business.

She has never visited the historic monastery of the Sisters in Clyde, Mo., though she would like to do so someday.

“I visited them when they were in South St. Louis, and I have felt connected to them ever since, even after they left St. Louis,” she explains.

Even during hard times, Geneva has made it a priority to support the Benedictine Sisters of Perpetual Adoration. Their holiness and dedication have given her strength when she has needed it, and she is full of thanks for all they have done.
