High Tea at St. Paul’s has returned as part of the hospitality offered by the Benedictine Sisters of Perpetual Adoration in Clyde, Mo.

Opened in 2009, the popular teahouse was on hiatus the past two years while the community underwent monastery renovations, which were recently completed.

The more than 200 guests, who attended on just a few select dates in less than a year, spoke volumes about the area’s need for this classic type of venue.

“When we first opened, I wondered if anyone would come,” said Sister Cathleen Marie Timberlake, OSB, who serves as teahouse hostess. “It was such a success and very humbling to hear the wonderful experiences our guests were having as they shared a table and warm conversations. So it is with great gladness we are once again offering high tea.”

The teahouse is located on monastery grounds in the historic St. Paul’s building, which was constructed in 1929 as the chaplain’s quarters. Over the years, it has served as living quarters for Sisters and housing for guests. Its quaintness and vintage character make it a perfect setting for afternoon high tea.

The teahouse is open from 12:30 to 2:30 p.m. on select dates. Guests are also invited to attend Day Hour, a mid-day prayer service, with the Sisters in the beautiful Adoration Chapel at noon.

Reservations can be made for one to three rooms, with a full capacity of 18 guests. Each room is exquisitely decorated to reflect the glowing ambience associated with a tea service. The menu includes tea, coffee, sandwiches, scones and assorted pastries.

“This is a wonderful place to host a meeting, gather with friends or celebrate a birthday or other special occasion,” Sister Cathleen Marie said. “It is a beautiful way to make a special memory and allows our Sisters the chance to welcome guests to our home in the true Benedictine spirit of hospitality."

There is no cost to enjoy the teahouse, however, donations will be accepted. For a list of available dates or to make a reservation, please contact Sister Cathleen Marie at (660) 944-2257.
