Sister Spotlight: Sister Cheryl

Sister Cheryl with MaggieSister Cheryl is from Albert Lea, Minn. She earned degrees from Corbett College in Crookston, Minn., and the University of North Dakota and made her entrance with the Benedictine Sisters in 1989.

She served as subprioress of the Clyde, Mo., community from 1998 to 2002 and again from 2005 until 2008 when she was elected to the General Council.

At our Clyde monastery, she oversees a variety of projects and maintenance tasks. An avid animal lover, she's often spotted with the Sisters' dog, Maggie, in tow.

Sister Cheryl felt called to the Benedictine Sisters' life because "it is monastic but not actively engaged in external ministries."

Devoted to God's beautiful nature, she is very proud of helping coordinate the restoration of 200 acres of native prairie grass to the monastic grounds and the addition of a wind turbine on the Sisters' property. Also, she's best friends with the Sisters' dog, Maggie, who was adopted from a local animal shelter.
