Sister Spotlight: Sister Gladys

Sister GladysSister Gladys Ruth Noreen, OSB, was born in Minneapolis and made her final monastic profession with the Benedictine Sisters in 1978.

She earned a bachelor of arts degree from Valparaiso University, a master’s degree in religious studies from Washington University in St. Louis and a doctor of ministry degree in ecumenism from the Graduate Theological Foundation.

Sister Gladys served as superior of the San Benito Monastery in Dayton, Wyoming, until it closed in 2014. She previously served as administrator of the Benedictine Sisters' healthcare facility in Clyde, Missouri. She has taught confirmation classes for area parish children and has made mission trips to Kenya and Uganda.

Today she assists with maintenace at our Tucson, Arizona, community and leads a weekly Bible study group for the surrounding community.

“I enjoy the life of community and prayer,” Sister Gladys said. “Monastic life is about perseverance, as it is for anyone, whether they are religious, married or single.”
