Dreaming of the future of Benedictine spiritual life was the focus of women religious during the National Benedictine 55 & Under Gathering held in April in Beech Grove, Indiana.

Benedictine Sister of Perpetual Adoration Maria Victoria Cutaia, OSB, who serves as the chair for the group, attended the meeting in person along with BSPA Prioress General Sister Dawn Annette Mills, OSB. Sister Lynn Marie D’Souza, OSB joined the group virtually. Attendance included 60 religious sisters from around the country, either in person or online.

“This was the first time we’d been able to meet as a group since the COVID pandemic began,” Sister Maria Victoria said. “It was wonderful - delightful even - to spend time together in person once again.”

The meeting’s theme centered on “Fire for the Journey - Engaging our Charism” and included several presentations and sessions that focused on what it means to be Benedictine and to explore God’s call for serving his people today and into the future.

“We are reimagining and re-embracing what is core to our religious lives,” Sister Maria Victoria said.

The meeting was the first of three scheduled meetings that will focus on the overarching theme of “Embracing Our Future With Joy.” The purpose of the meetings is to dream of the future of Benedictine life and to create a space for religious sisters to deepen their relationships with others and to create new ones.
