Position: Full-time Cook

Full-time employment includes the following benefits: health insurance after 60 days of employment, dental and vision after 90 days, PTO after six months, 403(b) retirement savings and employer contributions after one year, and optional AFLAC. Sister Kitchen Manager or Prioress

Job Summary:

The cook plans and prepares the main noon meal for Sisters and guests. Position also includes some preparatory work for the evening meal. The cook is responsible for various aspects of the meal preparation and for the cleanliness of the food service area.

Essential Functions:

• Work in conjunction with kitchen manager and refectory staff;
• Process sweet corn and fresh vegetables from the garden;
• Prepare and set out noon meal on weekdays;
• Prepare proper food for special dietary needs of community members;
• Keep track of inventory and order food stuffs and kitchen supplies;
• Rotate food stocks;
• Clean and maintain all food service equipment;
• Arrange for special event food needs as indicated by Kitchen Manager;
• Wash pots and pans; and
• Cleaning Responsibilities: Daily: Clean work area- countertops and appliances after each meal; Weekly: sweep and vacuum kitchen floor, sweep coolers, clean kitchen office and bathroom; and As needed: Stove hood, vents and all equipment, clean pantry shelves and floor.
• Other duties assigned as necessary by kitchen manager

Requirements:

• Must be able to stand for long periods of time, stooping, bending, reaching;
• Lift 25 to 50 pounds without restrictions (for example, flour sacks and Sysco deliveries);
• Some cooking experience for groups of 20 or more;
• Time management skills; and
• Must be able to work on your own.
