From the Army to the Altar: Sister Nancy Rose inspires Serrans about her call to serve

Benedictine Sister of Perpetual Adoration Sister Nancy Rose Gucwa, OSB served as a keynote speaker for the 82nd Serra International Convention held in June in Kansas City.

The convention featured the theme “Chosen to Serve” and welcomed members from national and international clubs.

“My talk illustrated, through the lens of my experience of service in the U.S. Army and religious life, how each of us are chosen to serve others in whatever vocation we are called to,” Sister Nancy Rose said. “I really enjoyed meeting all the wonderful Serrans and learning how they foster, encourage and promote vocations to the priesthood and religious life. The Serrans are wonderful, prayerful and committed Catholics building a culture of vocations that our Church needs.”

The Serrans support women religious in many ways, according to Sister Nancy Rose.

“For example, they organize the annual Sisters Appreciation Day for all religious Sisters in the diocese and provide financial support of those in formation and for their religious communities, and organize special events such as the Global Rosary for Vocations and masses for vocations,” she said.

There are more than 500 Serra Clubs in 30 countries, comprised of thousands of lay Catholics who are committed to working for an increase in vocations to priesthood and consecrated religious life.
