In the nave of the chapel are statues of Benedictine women saints. Each statue is represented by a distinctive symbol characterizing the life of that particular saint. St. Hildegard was considered a poet, a physician and a prophetess. She wrote on various subjects, including commentaries on the Gospels and the Rule of St. Benedict. Although never formally canonized, she was proclaimed a saint by the multitudes.
