Benedictines to offer Summer Monastic Experiences

Benedictines to offer Summer Monastic Experiences - (27-03-2012)

< back

The Benedictine Sisters of Perpetual Adoration will host their annual Summer Monastic Experiences for women who are feeling a call to serve God through monastic life.

The event is for single women ages 18 to 47 and will offer participants the opportunity to enter into the rhythm of monastic life, prayer, faith sharing and what it is like living in a community of religious Sisters.

Discerning a religious vocation is a difficult process many women are often unprepared for. Making that journey can be much easier when done with a friend who's been there.

"Immersing yourself in community life, learning about faith sharing and opening your heart to God is a wonderful opportunity to learn about a religious vocation," Sister Ruth Elaine Starman, OSB said. "When I was younger, life in a convent wasn't in my plans, but God prevailed through that confusing time. I was blessed to be surrounded by support to help me through the discernment process, so it's especially dear to me that I can help others along that same path."

The Summer Monastic Experience is free for participants. Two opportunities are scheduled:

- May 24 through May 30: Tucson, Arizona

- June 30 through July 7: Clyde, Missouri
