The Benedictine Sisters of Perpetual Adoration in Clyde, Mo., welcomed Rosa Cruz to their postulancy during Day Hour on Sunday, Dec. 2, marking a beautiful beginning to the Advent season.

Cruz, a 25-year-old from San Luis, Ariz., is a graduate of the University of Arizona, having earned a bachelor’s of science degree in psychology. She formally entered the BSPA Congregation in a ritual, which began with Cruz’s ceremonial knock for entrance into the monastery’s Adoration Chapel as well as the Congregation in general.

During the next year, she will live in community at the monastery, participate in personal and communal prayer and further discern her monastic vocation. She will continue to wear her own clothing (habits are reserved for professed Sisters) and take classes on a variety of subjects.

"The first Sunday of Advent is a very fitting day to celebrate Rosa's entrance," Formation Director Sister Lynn Marie D'Souza said, OSB. "Advent marks the beginning of the new Church year, and the postulancy is a beginning in monastic life. Both events are filled with expectancy, eagerness and the joyful hope that God's promises to us will be fulfilled. I pray that Rosa's trust in God and her courage to follow his call will continue to be her strength and that they will inspire others to give themselves in service to God and his Church."
