The Benedictine Sisters at the Clyde Monastery are taking a step back into time to learn about Catholic history in America.
Beginning in November, several of the Sisters began taking a weekly class led by Archbishop Jerome Hanus, OSB of Conception Abbey. One of the first classes was especially interesting to Sister Sophia Becker, OSB.
“Archbishop Jerome wove together what was happening politically and the spiritual tenor in the Old and New Worlds as we delved into the different explorers and the Native Americans they encountered,” she said.
Classes like the one taught by Archbishop Jerome are important to the Sisters’ commitment to lifelong learning after entering the monastery.
“I find the content interesting,” Sister Sophia said. “We are learning about the movers and shakers in politics and society at that time and what the Church tried to teach and how that evolved over the years. We are definitely a human organization that is divinely inspired and led.” |
