The funds were used to help renovate a parking area at the monastery.
Walking into the monastery of the Benedictine Sisters of Perpetual Adoration in Tucson just got a little easier thanks to the efforts of a local business and area Knights of Columbus.
This summer, the Benedictine Sisters were the beneficiaries of Blue Sky Involve, an employee-driven volunteer program hosted by Johnson Controls Inc. Armed with a $1,000 grant and additional funding from the Knights of Columbus, the Benedictine Sisters were able to convert a graveled lot into paved parking spaces near the monastery’s south entrance.
“The new pavement has added much stability for those who park there and walk to our south door,” Prioress Sister Ramona Varela, OSB said. “Some people who visit our monastery are elderly and sometimes walk with a cane or walker. This new parking area will be safer and more convenient for everyone.”
The Blue Sky Involve grant included $1,000 for construction materials and labor from four employees. The company’s goal is to encourage employees to partner with local non-for-profit groups to assist them with a variety of projects and to grow leadership skills.
