Many turned to home improvement projects during the COVID-19 pandemic, and the Benedictine Sisters of Perpetual Adoration in Clyde, Missouri, were no different.

St. Michael’s and St. Joseph’s guest houses provide areas of rest and retreat as well as places for Sisters’ family and friends to stay while visiting their loved ones.

“We didn’t receive guests while the monastery was closed to the public during the pandemic,” Assistant Prioress General Sister Pat Nyquist, OSB, said. “The moratorium provided us with a chance to spruce up our guest areas.”

That included redecorating and replacing furniture in some living areas and bedrooms. The Sisters up-cycled many of the pieces from those no longer in use in the mother house. Sister Pat and Sister Jane Heschmeyer, OSB put forth a lot of effort to transform the spaces during the time the guest houses were closed to the public.

“It’s important that we make the best use of the things we have while providing a comfortable and aesthetic space for our guests whom St. Benedict instructs us to welcome as Christ,” Sister Pat added.
