There are eight pillars of dark green pearl granite along the nave that alternate with the structural pillars of Bedford stone. The pearl granite pillars were imported from Aberdeen, Scotland. More precious than marble, this pearl granite is an extremely difficult material to shape and cut because it contains traces of flint. Artistically carved capitals of Bedford stone surmount these columns as well as the structural pillars.
